§ 6-47. International Existing Building Code.
(a)
Adopted. The 2015 edition of the International Existing Building Code, as amended by ordinance, is hereby adopted as the Memphis and Shelby County 2018 Existing Building Code.
(b)
Local amendments. The 2015 edition of the International Existing Building Code is amended by adoption of the local amendments attached to Joint Ordinance No. 492 (on file with the county), as exhibit 1. The appendices adopted are Appendix A—Guidelines for the Seismic Retrofit of Existing Buildings and Appendix B—Supplemental Accessibility Requirements for Existing Buildings and Facilities of the 2015 Edition of the ICC International Existing Building Code.
(c)
Incorporated by reference. The 2015 edition of the International Existing Building Code and the local amendments adopted by ordinance are hereby incorporated herein by reference as if set out herein in their entirety.
(d)
Implementation. The adoption of the 2015 edition of the International Existing Building Code and those local amendments attached thereto, shall be implemented through their inclusion in the appropriate section of the Memphis and Shelby County Building Code which contains a provision that addresses the appropriate standards for construction of such improvements, alterations and additions and was duly adopted by the Memphis City Council in Ordinance No. 492 and the county board of commissioners in Ordinance No. 492.
(e)
Effective date. This section shall take effect in the City of Memphis and the unincorporated areas of the county on December 31, 2018, by virtue of the concurring and separate passage thereof by the Memphis City Council and by the board of commissioners of the county, or if not adopted by each legislative body by that date, at the date of such adoption by the second body.
