§ 34-43. Nonemergency 911 calls declared violation.

  • (a)

    It is unlawful for anyone to:

    (1)

    Place a call to the emergency 911 number, or send a message to a public safety answering point, for a communication that is for some purpose other than to report an emergency;

    (2)

    Place abusive calls, harassing calls, false calls, or prank calls to the emergency 911 number;

    (3)

    Call the emergency 911 number to report an event that the caller does not reasonably believe to be an emergency; or

    (4)

    Send similar messages from any device capable of communicating with a public safety answering point.

    (b)

    The placing of nonemergency calls and the sending of nonemergency messages shall be punishable as provided in section 34-44 or as provided by state law where applicable.
