Division 1. GENERALLY |
§ 2-154. Division of public works.
(a)
The director of public works shall have charge and general supervision of the division of public works.
(b)
The division of public works shall be responsible for all public works activities of the county government, which includes, but is not limited to, the functions of the agricultural extension service, county engineer, fire department, fleet services, parks and recreation, roads and bridges, real estate, Shelby Farms, solid waste management, support services, and emergency services.

1. Boards assigned to the division of public works include the following: 911 board, conservation board, Chickasaw Basin Authority, greenway alliance, port commission, riverfront development board, and stormwater steering committee.
2. Original name was division of roads and public works. Changed to public works, fire and corrections by Ch. 96, Priv. Acts 1977. Functions of division prior to 1979 included the current functions along with penal farm, port and harbor commission, cemetery, conservation board, and county fire department. See Resolution No. 16, December 15, 1975; Resolution No. 13, January 26, 1976; Resolution No. 20, April 5, 1976; Resolution No. 13, August 23, 1976 and Resolution No. 26, January 31, 1977.

7. Shelby Farms is managed by the Shelby Farms Park Conservancy, a nonprofit organization, pursuant to Res. No. 37, 3-27-2007.
