§ 2-152. Major divisions and directors created.

  • (a)

    There shall be the following major divisions of the county government:

    (1)

    Division of administration and finance.

    (2)

    Division of public works.

    (3)

    Division of community services.

    (4)

    Division of corrections.

    (5)

    Division of health services.

    (6)

    Division of planning and development.

    (b)

    The county mayor shall appoint, in accordance with section 3.06(B) of the county Charter, a chief administrative officer who shall be trained or experienced in government and be subject to the immediate supervision of the county mayor. The chief administrative officer shall coordinate, under the supervision of the mayor, the activities of all administrative divisions, serve as special liaison between the county mayor and all divisions, departments, boards, authorities and commissions, and perform such administrative and executive duties as may, from time to time, be assigned to him by the county mayor.

    (c)

    There is established a director of administration and finance. He shall be appointed by the county mayor in accordance with section 3.06(B) of the county Charter and shall serve at the pleasure of the county mayor. In addition to his duties as director of the division of administration and finance, he shall perform such other duties as may be assigned to him by the county mayor.

    (d)

    There is established a director of the division of public works. He shall be appointed by the county mayor in accordance with section 3.06(B) of the county Charter and shall serve at the pleasure of the county mayor. In addition to his duties as director of the division of public works, he shall perform such other duties as may be assigned to him by the county mayor.

    (e)

    There is established a director of the division of community services. He shall be appointed by the county mayor in accordance with section 3.06(B) of the county Charter and shall serve at the pleasure of the county mayor. In addition to his duties as director of the division of community services, he shall perform such other duties as may be assigned to him by the county mayor.

    (f)

    There is established a director of the division of corrections. He shall be appointed by the county mayor in accordance with section 3.06(B) of the county Charter and shall serve at the pleasure of the county mayor. In addition to his duties as director of the division of corrections, he shall perform such other duties as may be assigned to him by the county mayor.

    (g)

    There is established a director of the division of health services. He shall be appointed by the county mayor in accordance with section 3.06(B) of the county Charter and shall serve at the pleasure of the county mayor. In addition to his duties as director of the division of health services, he shall perform such other duties as may be assigned to him by the county mayor.

    (h)

    There is established a director of the division of planning and development. He shall be appointed by the county mayor in accordance with section 3.06(B) of the county Charter and shall serve at the pleasure of the county mayor. In addition to his duties as director of the division of planning and development, he shall perform such other duties as may be assigned to him by the county mayor.

    1. Division of public works, fire and corrections changed to division of public works and new division of fire and corrections created pursuant to ch. 112, Priv. Acts 1979.

    2. Chief administrative officer previously served as director of the division of administration and finance. Separate offices created by ch. 36, Priv. Acts 1979.

    3. Division of health and public service changed to division of community services and new division of health services created pursuant to ch. 277, Priv. Acts 1982 (ratified by Res. No. 22, 5-10-1982).

    4. The following divisions were created as part of the charter form of county government pursuant to Res. No. 11, 9-8-1986: administration and finance, public works, community services, health services, fire and corrections, planning and development, and personnel.

    5. Division of personnel abolished and division of general services created; fire deleted from division of fire and corrections placed under division of general services, personnel placed under division of administration and finance pursuant to Res. No. 19, 2-20-1995.

    6. Division of general services abolished pursuant to Res. No. 9, 12-18-2000. (Exhibit "A" shows where departments were reassigned.)
