Article IX. REGISTRATION OF VEHICLES |
§ 24-316. Person required to register motor vehicles; exceptions.
(a)
All residents of the county operating any motor vehicle or motorcycle shall register their motor vehicles and motorcycles with the county clerk's office as required, and during the dates prescribed, by state law for the original or renewal of state registration of motor vehicles or motorcycles or within five days after the acquisition of any such vehicle.
(b)
Exceptions to the registration requirement are the following:
(1)
Vehicles owned by governmental agencies, that is, the United States government, state, county and municipal governments, which have a state motor vehicle registration plate designating them as such.
(2)
A handicapped or disabled veteran, or former prisoner-of-war, who is a permanent resident of the county and who qualifies under the state special license plate laws.
(3)
A resident of the state, and permanent resident of the county who is a recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor and as qualified under state law.
(4)
A handicapped person who is permanently and totally confined to a wheelchair when so certified by a physician's statement, and other state law qualifications, and is a permanent resident of the county.
(5)
An active duty military serviceperson.
(6)
Any motor vehicle or motorcycle classified as an antique vehicle under state law.
(7)
Any semitrailer, utility trailer, or nonmotorized mobile home.
(8)
One motor vehicle and one motorcycle owned by a rural volunteer firefighter permanently residing in the county.
(9)
Any vehicle owned by an active member of the state national guard and licensed pursuant to state law.
(10)
Any other exceptions allowable under T.C.A. title 55, which would be applicable to the county.
