§ 10-547. Judges generally; license; oath; working time; functions of court divisions; guilty pleas.

  • (a)

    The offices of general sessions court judge of divisions 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12, respectively, are created.

    (b)

    There shall be one judge for each division of the general sessions court, with the same qualifications and term of office as provided by the state constitution of for judges of inferior courts.

    (c)

    All such judges of the general sessions court shall be learned in the law, which shall be evidenced by the judge being licensed to practice law in the courts of the state.

    (d)

    The oath of office shall be the same as that prescribed for circuit judges and chancellors and shall be taken and filed in the same manner and with the same officers as prescribed for circuit judges and chancellors.

    (e)

    Each judge of the general sessions court shall devote all of his working time to the duties of his office and shall not engage in the practice of law during his tenure of office.
