§ 10-373. Definitions.

  • When used in this article, unless the context otherwise requires:

    Adult means a person who is 18 years of age or older.

    Child means:

    (1)

    A person under age 18 years;

    (2)

    A person under the age of 19 years who is under juvenile court jurisdiction as provided for in this article; or

    (3)

    A person under the age of 21 years who has been adjudicated delinquent and given a determinant sentence under T.C.A. § 37-1-137(a)(1)(B); provided, however, that a juvenile reaching the age of 18 years and under commitment to the state department of youth development is legally an adult except with regard to serving the institutional and community supervision time stipulated in his adjudication of delinquency.

    No exception shall be made for a child who may be emancipated by marriage or otherwise.

    City means the City of Memphis in the State of Tennessee.

    Clerk means the clerk of the juvenile court of the city and county, or the deputy clerk.

    Court means the juvenile court of Memphis and Shelby County.

    Judge means the judge of the juvenile court of the city and county.

    Peace officer means the county sheriff or any of his deputies, any constable of the county, and any police officer of the county or of any municipal corporation in the county.
